With my relatively new-found passion for yoga, I was fascinated when I heard about this energetic woman who views the ancient art in a way that goes beyond the

physical, delving into the spiritual and immersing deeply into the psychological. My friend Greg had taken a class with her at Kripalu in the Spring of 2005 that so enchanted him that I needed to learn more about Seane.  I found her essence to be completely genuine, and I felt an immediate kindred spirit connection. As the interview proceeded, I discovered that we had even more in common than I had initially considered.

On her website, www.seanecorn.com , Seane has one of my favorite quotes from the poet Rumi “Let the beauty we love be what we do” She exemplifies that quote in all aspects of her work. Her DVD’s, entitled Vinyasa Flow Yoga: Uniting Movement and Breath and Vinyasa Flow Yoga: The Body and Beyond are true delights, and user friendly for all, from the newest yogini to the most experienced. It begins to give the viewer a sense of the person behind the postures.

Her social consciousness extends far beyond her experience on the mat. She inspires people throughout the world, by her example.

 Some excerpts from her website:

“My involvement with activism and outreach has deepened my compassion, broadened my perspective, and created a more profound purpose to my life.  Yoga teaches us that all beings are connected, and how beyond race, religion, sexual preference, or gender, we are all one. Yoga literally means union. It means to come together and make whole and recognizes that there is no separation between body and mind, matter and consciousness, heaven and earth, you and I.

I believe in the teaching, “There, but for the grace of God, go I,” and feel a deep responsibility to participate actively toward the transformation of consciousness.  Outreach is a way we can engage with our communities, educate ourselves, and help alleviate the fear, ignorance, and prejudice which are often associated with our global emergencies -- such as incurable diseases, abuse, poverty, sexual exploitation, and environmental destruction, to name only a few. Without our compassion, interest, time, money, voice, intelligence, or whatever we have to offer, change cannot happen —and tragically, pain, discrimination, and even death are perpetuated.  Therefore, I am excited to be able to announce an action-driven collaboration between Gaiam International and myself. In direct service to PSI/YouthAIDS (www.youthaids.org ), we are initiating a campaign called “Off the Mat, Into the World” and invite you to participate with us in this necessary effort.”
